Back to the future Delorean

From http://www.holytaco.com :

"The back story on this is that a girl named Olga was out with her
friends in the Marina district of San Francisco (known for being a
popular hang out for douches), and she talked to this guy named Dmitri
for all of two minutes. Then she gave him her card and said “give me a
call.” The above is the messages he left. Listen to the whole thing, it
just keeps getting better and better. I won’t even tell you my favorite
parts because i don’t want to ruin anything. Just listen. "

I just came across this great site, http://thewallpaperhunter.com which I will be visiting frequently. They have a huge selection of beautiful wallpapers for your desktop. I recommend "The Dark Knight" or "Takeshi Art". Enjoy!

Me and my friend Zai Tang just started a new project yesterday which we will be working on this summer.

The basic idea was that erm... well, "we'll make something togheter".
We know eachother quite well as we lived togheter at University and we respect eachothers work so we thought we'd put our heads togheter and do some experiments to see where they take us. The plan was to start off doing some visuals and then let that lead us in to new ideas. This will hopefully form a storyline as we go along. In the later stages we will start the music for the video and then piece the two togheter.

So, yesterday I took my camera and headed up to Zai's house in Stoke Newington. We set up the tripod and camera with a black sheet as a neutral background. Then we shot about 140 photos which resulted in a little stop frame animation which you can see below.

We used Zai's old toy figurines for props which we thought worked quite well. I think the fact that they are figurines doesn't really matter. I think the interesting thing here is the colours and the shapes & patterns from the stop frame animation. The sequence was actually not more than about 10 seconds, but we took the footage in to Final Cut Pro and messed about with it there to see where it could take us. What we quickly discovered was that single trails of animation (like the toy cars moving in a line) make a nice point for gesture. The other nice feature is that when you have quite a lot going on, you can make interesting patterns by multi-layering the animations across the screen.

Stay tuned for further developments (all on this blog) in the coming weeks!

Herbert A. Millington
Chair - Search Committee
412A Clarkson Hall, Whitson University
College Hill, MA 34109

Dear Professor Millington,

Thank you for your letter of March 16. After careful consideration, I
regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me
an assistant professor position in your department.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually
large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field
of candidates, it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Whitson's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in
rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at
this time. Therefore, I will assume the position of assistant professor
in your department this August. I look forward to seeing you then.

Best of luck in rejecting future applicants.

Sincerely,
Chris L. Jensen

Made of honey-combed cardboard, the FlexibleLove is a cross between Frank Gehry's Wiggle Chair (at least the cardboard part) and Richard James' Slinky. Closed, it weighs all of 55 lbs (25kg) and compresses to a very slinky 25" x 22" x 8" form (wide enough for one 5-year old -- or an adult's solo butt-cheek), but it expands to nearly 24 feet and can withstand up to 4230 lbs! (The manufacturer calculates the capacity to be adequate for 16 people -- which might be tolerable on a subway during rush hour but not for any prolonged casual seating).

Awesome design!

Go on... pass the ball around!!

I really like this little Flash toy from Zefrank.com
It enables the user to draw and make super drawings by doing some clever maths to it.
