I met up with one of my friends earlier this weekend and we were discussing Fly Guy, Trevor Van Meter's fantastic little immersive Flash game. It's such a classic and great for dull moments in the office.

The world's first thought-controlled game is expected to be launched by the Sydney company Emotiv by the end of this year.

Emotiv says its EPOC headset features 16 sensors that push against the player's scalp to measure electrical activity in the brain - a process known as electro-encephalography. In theory, this allows the player to spin, push, pull, and lift objects on a computer monitor, simply by thinking.

I'm definitely getting one of these gadgets when it's coming out. It would be a great idea to use it as a gestural / neural controller for music - similar to what I made for my MA Project in 2007, the "TaGlove" TaGlove in 2007

I just came across this posting on hemmy.net which showcases the work of Chinese artist Li Wei from Beijing.

Li Wei insists that he does not use photoshop to manipulate the photos which I think is pretty damn impressive.

His work is a mixture of performance art and photography - he works with the help of props such as mirror, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics.

Mysterious graffiti artist Banksy is a 34-year-old former public school pupil called Robin Gunningham, The Mail On Sunday has claimed.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss is a rollicking comic ride and tender journey though love, sex, and modern romance in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve. Wilson (Scoot McNairy), a twenty-nine-year old guy who has just had the worst year of his life, is new to Los Angeles, has no date, no concrete plans and every intention of locking the doors and forgetting the last year ever happened. That is until his best friend, Jacob (Brian McGuire), browbeats him into posting a personal ad on Craig's List. When Vivian (Sara Simmonds), a strong-willed woman hell bent on being with the right guy at the stroke of midnight responds, a chaotic, sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching journey through the black and white streets of L.A. begins. In the waning hours of the year, emotional vulnerability and bitterly honest humor seem to be waiting around every corner - Independent Film Guide"); ?>

My mate Zai made a online puzzle / Flash game a couple of years ago which I'd totally forgotten about. Still looks ace. I really like the idea - should be more like this around!

Take a look here:

I definately want one of these! :)

"BT is to invest £1.5 billion rolling out a new fibre network that will deliver super-fast internet access to ten million homes within four years."

But they have said to Ofcom - the telecoms regulator in the UK - that they would like to see "a healthy profit" on the scheme, which means... suprise suprise; the prices we are so familiar with when it comes to BT.

I for one will not be switching to BT - Fibreoptic or not.

Content Management
Today I've been taking my first steps with Drupal - http://drupal.org

So far it has been very good and I can't believe I haven't tried it out before. I think that if you are serious about starting out your own content driven website it is absolutely something to look in to. Another option is of course Wordpress either if you wish to use it on your own host or their free option it can provide a good and quick solution for content management. There are of course several differences between the two, so I recommend to do some reading first.

I selected Drupal because it has a vibrant community at drupal.org , lots of themes and modules and is quite quick and easy to set up. The learning curve is steep but there are lots of tutorials out there how to get you up and running - like this brilliant video tutorial which was written and recorded by Addison Berry of Lullabot

Which provider and host to choose?
Since my host (1and1) did not have support for mysql on my old package I decided to take the plunge and go for the slightly more expensive Linux Business (ca £10pm) deal where you get two 100mb mysql databases (I know, it's not a lot but something to begin with right!).

This blog
My aim is to start blogging about things going on around the Internet. This can be tips and shared wisdom on how to make websites profitable, wierd stuff, gadgets, art / illustrations / design and other interesting things.

I'll also keep you updated on my own projects / art and of course updates about my company, TagSko Productions - which I started in 2006 but did not incorporate (formally started) before June 2008.
